About Raza Ali Dada : Raza takes an approach to design that enables him to resolve and simplify a wide range of attributes related to design and architecture. By virtue of location and form, his viewpoint includes beyond the end product or building, the contributors whose efforts shape parts of the project. Living in a developing country he feels such an approach to be integral with creative thinking. This resolve is apparent in a clean and minimal aesthetic enriched by a meaningful concept and intent. He constantly feeds on all forms of art to inform his practice and teaching. STATEMENT OF ART:Art, Design or Architecture are not to be described in a finite way. There must be a context of the affinity created between oneself and the arts which must be observed and understood to be explored further as one matures and becomes aware of new truths as time passes. All forms of Art or Design have a purpose - sometimes for an exclusive act and usually for a larger public. Sometimes the purpose is left undefined and one deals with the matter at an individual level to absorb a message whether subliminal or at the surface. The idea of a purpose, still, is almost abstract for me and it will never always be the same and always elusive. Purpose of a human being is not defined in its absolute yet, so whatever stems from a human being is also within that context. This open ended-ness can give rise to open minded-ness and therefore a creative impulsive that may lead to explorations and attempts to consolidate or resolve curiosities and thoughts. Looking at where we stand today, My thoughts are more like a reaction. A reaction to a blatant and relentless flow of information and image. As we have grown up in last three or four decades, words have been taken over by other forms of imagery and media. A human being begins to react and interact from a much earlier age but is hardly trained formally to deal with the onslaught as most education inducing models have not evolved at the same pace as the rest of the information based environment. Therefore we float in excess. Excess of - everything. I think of a world where through whatever force, there is a reversal of sorts. There is simplification. There is peace. There is time, and there is silence. There is the fresh air, the room for a pause and a meaningful thought. My work, my ideas and concepts long for a minimal but meaningful outcome. One that is not in isolation but in harmony with where it sits and whom it is intended for. An office is China is much like one in Dubai and another in London - why? These are now becoming complex questions and debates whereas they should not be an issue in the first place. We need Design, and we need Art but not to forget who and where we are, so that we may define the forms of these art with meaningful concepts and a connection with their place and time. Time that has past and one that approaches us.
