Home > Winners > Design #72449 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer SUN JIAN (JS) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of SUN JIAN by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Zhe Gu Tea here.

Interview with SUN JIAN at Sunday 18th of October 2020

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JS: Zhe Gu Tea's unique logo mark originates from Chinese font of little hero with the slim profile of tea leaves, which presents the shape of the aroma. The design inspiration came from the tale of partridge. By adopting the pure white background, it depicts a partridge rest on the tree in line-drawing method directly and simply. The high-end packaging originated from an obstruct conception of Buddhism as the Chinese word"Kon." The growing area of Zhe Gu Tea, Dong Shan hill, is a Buddhist shrine.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JS: The unique logo mark originated from Chinese font of little hero with the slim profile of tea leaves, which presents the shape of the aroma. The design inspiration came from the tale of partridge. By adopting the pure white background, it depicts a partridge rest on the tree in line drawing method directly and simply. The high end packaging originated from an obstruct conception of Buddhism as the Chinese word"Kon". Dong Shan hill is a Buddhist shrine.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JS: Every year, we will select good works to participate in the competition, so that the industry can recognize our design results.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JS: It took about 2 months from the strategy to the implementation of the manuscript.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
JS: Our design was produced by another company and sold its production rights.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
JS: My previous design team for the emblem of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games had a great influence on me.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
JS: I created the whole design by myself.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JS: Based on the feedback of the product in the market, we will submit an international design competition if the response is good and loved by everyone.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
JS: Every time the creation process is painful, we need to consult a large amount of information to understand the industry and understand the hearts of customers. I continue to work hard.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
JS: No other problem.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
