Interview with gianpietro tonetti at Friday 2nd of May 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? GT: The new LED technology. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? GT: Proper use of LED technology. Low power consumption and high efficiency. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? GT: Complete product line with variations in ceiling and floor. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? GT: One night! FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? GT: I was commissioned a project providing for the use of LED strips. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? GT: We gave the manufacturing rights to the STATUS SRL Via Vittorio Veneto, 23, 20010 Bernate Ticino (MI) FS: What made you design this particular type of work? GT: Knowledge of the materials to be used and the LED technology FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? GT: The Customer helped us in the development of the body FS: Who is the target customer for his design? GT: Anyone who needs a light unobtrusive and pleasant. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? GT: To my knowledge there is not currently on the market, a similar product. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? GT: A tribute to my daughter. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? GT: CAD 3D FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? GT: A compact and discrete element that diffuses the light into two different directions. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? GT: The Customer a company specializing in the manufacture of methacrylate FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? GT: Fundamental, if they had not produced LED strips we could never conceive of an object as this lamp. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? GT: If I have to be honest .... pure pleasure! FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? GT: Create a product with the right production cost. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? GT: I like to compare myself with others and share experiences. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? GT: The best use of the acrylic sheet. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? GT: Yessss!
