Hisamichi Kasai, the lead designer of the winning packaging design work Tamausagi explains “Tamausagi is a bottled tea brewed with Uji Gyokuro, the highest grade of Japanese tea. We designed the brand to enhance and capitalize on the value of Japanese tea, which has been offered for free. The bottle has a simple form inspired by Japan's aesthetic of simplicity, known as wabi-sabi. The symbol is derived from the legendary rabbit that guided the guardian god of Uji. The bottle design depicts a moonlit night with thin clouds, representing the Gyokuro tea's cultivation method of blocking out the sun's rays.
