View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Yueh Mei Cheng STATEMENT OF ART:About Yueh Mei Cheng : Yueh Mei Cheng is a distinguished professor at the School of Architecture at Feng Chia University in Taiwan. Her creative endeavors span various mixed media and interactive digital technologies, synthesizing Eastern and Western art theories into a cohesive and expansive artistic style and form. Her works present a diverse and rich cross-cultural contemporary perspective, serving as a perfect interpretation of the fusion between Eastern and Western cultures. She was once invited to collaborate with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) on her "Emotional Color Thermometer" invention creating a digital interactive painting/light installation named "Introspection" for the International Floral Expo. My creation is the result of my personal exploration and interaction within different cultural heritages. Through the use of new mediums, I create a new artistic vocabulary that reflects my identity in relation to the complex phenomena of both Eastern and Western art history, life, nature, and environment. These elements metaphorically represent the outward manifestations of the encounter between two different traditions, creating spaces rich with poetic resonance. They also symbolize the various discordances generated in the process of human civilization due to "destruction." However, under the visual arrangement of beauty, these seemingly conflicting elements can coexist awkwardly yet harmoniously with the ideals I aspire to. According to Einstein, "Space and time are not conditions in which we live, but modes in which we think." In art, space and time are merely facets of reality. My art takes the form of metaphorical symbols, aiming to evoke the shared, ancient, and mysterious memories inherent within people. They exist beyond the dimensions of ordinary perception. Any imagination I have regarding the form and content of art is merely an external expression, a materialized manifestation. My true intention is to invite each individual to participate in a unique, multi-dimensional, and uncertain visual chess game through viewing artworks, allowing everyone the opportunity to awaken inner wisdom through their visual intelligence.
