In 2016, Kyle was named the Will Ching Designer of the Year by the International Interior Design Association in Chicago. Kyle’s recently recognized works include the Peacock Cellar in Shanghai, awarded Best Global Project by F.X. Magazine, and the Bethesda Medical Center in Haiti, awarded by the Boston Society of Architects and the AIA. Kyle is additionally the co-founder of Kaleidoskope Visualization and the CEO of the Green Missions Foundation. Throughout Kyle's career, he has been passionate about using design as a tool to improve the places we live, create beauty, and solve challenges across all scales. Kyle's experience has equipped him with the tools and knowledge to shape governance and policy, lead with an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving and magnify the positive influence that impact-driven design can have on the built and natural environment. Kyle believes that "we cannot talk about equity or justice in our work until we have engaged, experienced, and empathized with those we are designing for. The most significant challenges we face go beyond the act of design itself." Kyle has been passionate about sustainable design and ecologies from the beginning of his career and received his LEED Accredited Professional certification before completing his architectural education. While in China, Kyle trained with Al Gore as a Climate Reality Leader and has spoken internationally on climate, and air pollution, including appearances as a keynote speaker at the Klimahouse Conference, the World Youth Design Forum, and the World Innovation & Entrepreneurship Expo. Today Kyle is researching at Harvard how design can engage challenges at the intersectionality of Environment, Society, and Governance. Kyle's current research combines quantitative and qualitative data to drive new environmental standards for city policy. He believes that true sustainability is based on understanding the nature of the ephemeral and that every decision we make will impact lives today and beyond. "We must always ask, Why are we doing this, and who is it for?" As adaption and resilience become an important focus for the future of our cities, Kyle has pursued the interdisciplinary interests of economists, sociologists, anthropologists, historians, engineers, philosophers, artists, and even metaphysicists. He believes that "we have to envision the future while staying relevant to the needs of the present." While much of Kyle's work is within the physical, built environment, he believes that working within virtual worlds allows the imagination to flow and for creative ideas to be rapidly prototyped through augmented and mixed realities. In 2018, Kyle co-founded Kaleidoskope, a virtual reality visualization, and animation studio. Visualization enhances design communication while bringing the unreal to life. Kaleidoskope exists to push the boundaries of digital design to communicate and encapsulate multi-dimensional stories. In addition to Kyle's professional practice, he founded the Green Missions Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, and has been a visiting professor at Shanghai Tongji University, School of Design Innovation, where he has lectured and critiqued since 2011. Kyle has also been a guest lecturer and critic at Nottingham Ningbo University and Judson University in Chicago.
