Additionally, his designs have been exhibited internationally, including; Japan, Italy, France, Finland, Taiwan, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, China, Korea, and the UK. STATEMENT OF ART:Industrial designers develop the form of manufacture products. They consider; aesthetics, consumer trends, manufacturing processes, costs, functionality and ergonomics. Using all of these consideration they create new products that will appeal to consumers and lead to a competitive market advantage for their clients. Industrial designers are different that fine artists in that they are client driven. Most artists create their work as a form of personal expression. Industrial designers typically work in a team and use the tools and sensitivity of art to create objects that reflect and express the values of their client. As an entrepreneur he has partnered to start a manufacturing company, Compliers Inc. as well as maintaining his own design consultancy. He is currently exploring new manufacturing techniques that utilize digital short-run manufacturing. He is particularly interested in the gift market and creating new products that challenge the boundaries between craft and mass production. As a designer he often takes advantage of a material’s flexible character. He has developed products that use flexibility to improve; functionality, user appeal and manufacturability. Most recently he has been exploring recycled rubber sheet goods that are die-cut to create user assembled products. Professor Visser seeks to create innovative new product concepts that push the boundaries of design. Typically, industrial designers work with a team of engineers, marketers, and other designers to create designs that will be produced within current manufacturing and marketing limitations. By pushing these limitations, he creates new product concepts that can change the way we think about a product. Of particular interest are products that use innovation to improve the quality of life. For example he recently organized an interdisciplinary team to develop a safer cook stove for third world countries. The team was made of faculty, staff and students from five different departments at Purdue.
