DESIGN NAME: Lastlight - Ocean Calls For Help
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fine Art Photography
INSPIRATION: The ocean is my inspiration, my metaphor of life.Everything what I learned came from the sea when I was a surfer competitor. Observing the waves, I decided to register the last day light like a darkroom. The darkness values the light and builds forms.
This was the metaphoric form I found to express my concern with the current state of negligence with the sea, where the Darkness represents death and the light is life. White is related to good things. Black represents the bad side, damage, pollution, almost dead, but with still a chance to be saved.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project took eight years. The images were captured under special conditions: light, tide, volume of waves, wind, among others. The final photograph does not pass through extensive post-production, emphasizing, on the precision in the capture of the image. Therefore there are few opportunities and, when they do occur, there is little time to realize them. since the ideal light appears only a few moments before dusk. The Lastlight project explores in a direct way the importance of ecological and preservation matters of the Sea.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Lastlight explores the importance of ecological and environmental preservation matters, something as precious and vital as the Sea. Light in darkness creates a unique intimate maritime atmosphere, where light represents life and darkness is death. This situation aims to show true oceanic pollution these days, where each wave cries out for attention through its shapes and movements as if asking for help in the dark.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in 2011 and finished in 2018, in Garopaba, Santa Catarina,Brazil.
It was never exhibited before.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research
Personal observation of the impact of the sea waves with the coast and its effects.
Objectives
Identifing the effects of waves which express the contrast between the good and the bad.
Methodology
Work always at the same place, at the same conditions.
Tools, Canon 5D Mark II ,Canon 70mm/200mm 2.8 lens.
Experiments
Work 8 years for final selection.
Impact
Strong contrast between light and darkness in different shapes.
Motivate, by the impact of the images, the business and government environment to take the necessary measures to change the dramatic situation of the oceans.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge for me was find a way to address to polluted reality of the ocean in a artistic form. The main obstacle was to create images that would impact people in a subliminary maner. By using a real dramatic photographs should convince a broad range of the cultural society which has a major role in social action.
I realized that I could use the light and darkness as a metaphor of life and death referring to the Ocean.
