| DESIGN NAME: BulGgod PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from the concept of Flame from my Korean Culture. The burning flame embodies meanings of purification, sacrifice and evolution. The designs and colours that flames create are compared to the sparkle of a blooming flower that generates deep inside the fire. We call this Bul Ggod, which means Fire Flower. I am deeply inspired by this phenomenon. My desire is to express colour contrast, strong light, movement of the flame, and the feeling I experience in my own creative process. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The unique property of this project is the expression of movement at different degrees. The main one is the wavering halo, created by alternating of rubies and diamonds at different heights and levels, forming the illusion of a flickering flame. The second generated by the opening of the 2 outer sides of the ring, which set the central piece free. My aspiration to expree the passion of the flame is accenturated by details as the tapering of the 3 ring bands and the concave shape of the central one. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The strength of this artwork is thee separation and the mobility of the design, It is studied as two different ring. The central piece consists of a solitaire ring feacuring a beautiful oval ruby of 2.01ct set in four eagle claws. The second ring is based on a hinge mechanism set as its base, which gives security, stability and a comforable wearing sensation. Another peculiarity of this design is the possiblity to interchange the centrl ring to continually create new designs and combinations. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: I started this project while studying at induc University in Seoul in 2013. Since then I have kept on developing and improving the design along which adding different features. Thanks to my career as a Jewellery designer in Sydney, Australia. I have had thee opportunity to work on this piesce up until lase December. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This project has been developed using 3D Rhino CAD. 18K White gold features a 2.01ct Oval Ruby from Mozambique, 20pcs of Round Briliant cut Diamond 0.012ct each, 20pcs of Round Briliant cut graduated Ruby from 0.015ct to 0.02ct. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 20.63mm x Depth 22.78mm x Height 22.78mm TAGS: Ring, Gold, Ruby, Diamonds, Flame, Passion, Wearable, Jewellery RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main area of my research for this project consisted of developing the hinge mechanism. this mechanism is not easily found in rings as it is a more traditional feature of other jewellery items such as bangles and pendants. I carried out my investigagion with the help of my jewellery master Manas in Sydney, and through market research both in Korea and Australia. CHALLENGE: The biggests challenge consisted of creating space for the hinge in the design without altering the proportion. The choice of the concave band for the central ring was prompted by the pursuit for stability between the two parts of this ring. Wearability also had a primary importance in the creation process. NAME: Jin Lee PROFILE: Jin Lee is an award winning jewellery designer from Seoul, South Korea, who currently lives and work in Sydney, Australia. In 2014 she completed her degree in jewellery desgin at Induk University in Seoul. During her studies her art work as focused on glamorous and elaborate workmanships. Since six years she has been working on the creation of fine jewellery. Based on ther mother culture, she loves to recreate classic pieces such as Belloe epoque and Art Nouveau styles into modern wearable jewellery which is combined wih oriental vibes. |
