| DESIGN NAME: Fusion PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant and Office INSPIRATION: The design echos with the fusion menu of the restaurant by combining and harmonizing futuristic, cyber, industrial and Japanese elements, which also reflects the company's concept of challenging the traditional way of thinking towards style and creating something new, unexpected and refreshing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As the headquarter of a catering group, the project is composed of a restaurant with a nice kitchen and the back office. The project is a fusion of different styles; the circular portal with the bamboo gives the entrance a mysterious look and a sense of Japanese garden; the steel mirror ceiling with its distorted reflection creates a ripple-like effect, it works really dramatic especially with the bamboo; the linear lightings on the ground and roof help to outline and define the different zones and volumes, and the mirror wall allows the lighting lines and space to extend beyond and make it very spacious and cyber; the LED outline of the booth creates a floating-like illusion which enhances the futuristic feeling; the open ceiling, the use of steel, wood, concrete, are giving the project an industrial touch which is also the identity of the site as a factory. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In terms of operation, the different seats are designed for different kind of customers with consideration of number as well as personality; regular booth for 4-6 people; private study room-like seat for a couple or one customer who only wants to enjoy food on his or her own; a long wooden table for big group of people or as a communal table for people who want to make new friends; movable tables for catering different combination of customers. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The design is started in September 2018 and the construction is finished in January 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In order to make sure the final result is ideal and everything works and fits, the project was mainly created in the computer; rendering is heavily used for testing different materials and calculating lux as well as color temperature for all lightings throughout the entire design process. For communicating on site with the contractor, besides the construction drawing set, a virtual reality walk-through was also created for the workers to quickly understand the project. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2863sqft TAGS: Restaurant, Hong Kong, Cafe, food, story, Japanese, industrial, futuristic, cyber, fusion, dining RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is to create a nice and sizable dining space, a well-equipped central kitchen for a catering group for different food tasting and comfortable working space as the headquarter back office, while fully satisfy all the restriction and limitation on licensing requirement in a factory in Hong Kong. Then the challenge that came after was to create a project that can represent and echo with the company's concept visually and physically.
