| DESIGN NAME: Dear.Odd PRIMARY FUNCTION: Collectible toy INSPIRATION: The "Karma Series" was inspired by the lyrics and ambience of songs like Radiohead's "Karma Police," and "Across the Universe" by the Beatles. The lyrics and atmosphere of the song are reinterpreted in the sculpture and explores ideas of forgetting past memories and nostalgia. The past makes us of the present. "Not being seen and even if forgotten the things I see and feel at every moment are archived inside me and makes who I am today" is the setting where the Karma Series start. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dear.Odd is the first designer toy of the karma series. It was made for interior design and collecting, and as a hand-made work, 10 were made for each color. With the one-eyed setting and carved-in tattoos the trauma and unconsciousness that each people have were expressed. There ate a total of 3 series of for the Karma Series and starting from 2014 until now, through the toy festival they have been presented in East Asian countries like South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This toy is composed of body, arms, crown and heart parts. The body and arms are stuck together, but the crown and heart can be separated. It weighs 700g, and can be used for decorating home or an exhibition hall. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The 'Karma series' started in October 2014 in Seoul, and was exhibited in Taipei, Hongkong, Seoul, Thailand toy festival. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Handmade / Resin sculpture Making the form with sculpy, it is molded by silicon and copied with resin. And I did painting manually on this resin. Because this is a small amount, I did all the processes by myself. I made other colorways and ceramic lamp with this design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 130mm x 110mm x 230 mm TAGS: arttoy, Toydesign, sculpting , characterdesign RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I usually make toys for collection for adults. The motive is the music I hear, and this theme of 'Dear.odd' is the image of a woman named Odd symbolizes our inner side(karma). 'Odd' is a woman whose name means strange, weird,and is our inner breaking down and twisted little by little due to situations of ourself and those around us. As we write a letter of consolation and affection to us having such inner side, I named this work as 'Dear.Odd' CHALLENGE: It was difficult showing emotion in a shape Because I have to explain only with shape not having any functions, I had many difficulties. And I should not lose the beauty, that was the most important mission. I could mass-produce it using mold, but because I made them by myself manually, it took long time and I could show only a small amount to collectors, which was another difficulty.
