Ocean Waves
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Necklace and Earrings set
INSPIRATION:
The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination, and brings eternal joy to the soul. Every time I am in front of the ocean, the waves whisper to me that, if one chooses simple things and find joy in simple treasures of nature, life and living need not be so hard. The inspiration from the waves is not because they rise and fall, but because each time the waves fall they never fail to rise again. In my oceanic design, I have tried to express this peace and joy that the ocean brings to us.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
I believe that a woman is inherently beautiful and the jewelry that she carries should underscore her essence. In the oceanic waves necklace, I have attempted to portray these very qualities of a woman as reflected in the waves. The necklace exudes the radiance of a woman that comes from her deterministic yet graceful and alluring persona. The glittering waves in the necklace project the charming sparkle in the eyes of a woman. While the blue color embodies the vitality and the vastness, integral to a woman. The necklace is handmade, exquisite piece, to mesmerize.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The oceanic wave necklace is suited for red carpet events. It best suited to wear it with a cocktail off-the-shoulder dress. This will ensure that the necklace stands out along with the radiant face of the lady. The earrings with the necklace are comparatively smaller in size by design to further accentuate the sparkle of the necklace.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This jewelry was designed and manufactured between March-April 2016 and showcased at the IVANA Fashion show organized in July 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
My design was initially hand-sketched on a paper, where I experimented with various shapes and forms of waves to form the necklace. Once, the sketch was finalized, a CAD replica of the sketch was created for final casting. Post the metal work, stones were set manually into the respective slots and finally the necklace was polished to give it its luster. In this manner the exquisite and sparkling piece of my imagination was created.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
I did secondary research to understand the natural occurrences and shapes of waves in the ocean. The research was mainly done using the internet and I captured various shapes of the waves to created a repository. Then I reviewed the repository of these sketches to identify the most appropriate motif for my final design.
CHALLENGE:
It was important that the necklace projected the vastness, turbulence yet calming sense that the ocean exudes. Hence, the design had to be made of larger proportion to project this magnificent spectacle of the oceanic waves. The key technical challenge with the large piece was to make it into one sturdy yet elegant piece without any joints. At the same time, it was important to make it as light weight as possible to ensure it was usable, easy to handle and most importantly cost optimal. Considering this requirement, I modified the design to have multiple joints in such a way that they ensured sturdiness while keeping the weight low.
