| DESIGN NAME: Portuguese Story PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewellery Collection INSPIRATION: I am seeking to combine design innovation to traditional craftsmanship and to show that is possible to build an idea of contemporaneity with a perspective of our past. I decided to pick a time of great originality in art and Portuguese architecture. It was carried out a study in architectural elements from several portuguese buildings and it was decided to do a interpretation of a ceiling's structure of a sixteenth century's church. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main goal was to create a collection that would link the jewelry to architecture and Portuguese cultural heritage with a unique and contemporary perspective. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ribs' geometry results in very light pieces of jewelry that can be worn equally in a casual way or on a more elegant event. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2013 in Porto and it was finished in March 2015. It was exhibited for the first time in September 2014. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hand drawing, CAD design, 3D printing in wax, modeling by hand, casting in gold, gemstones setting and hand crafted finishing. Materials: 19.2 kt pink gold and come in different gemstones combinations. It is possible to choose between only diamonds or add a mix of colored gemstones such as tsavorites, peridots, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, quartz. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions Band: 21.1 x 21.1 x 12.8 mm // Ring: 28 x 28 x 23.4 mm // Earrings: 65.2 x 28.3 x 2.6 mm // Small Bracelet: 65 x 55 x 13.5 mm // Large Bracelet: 63 x 47 x 36 mm TAGS: fine jewelry, fine jewellery, portuguese design, ring, bracelet, earrings, pink gold, diamonds, coloured gemstones RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Conceptually the research has focused on how to set up portugueseness being at the same time contemporary and universal. For the materialization it was explored ways to use the latest technologies together with the jeweler traditional techniques. CHALLENGE: The main challenge in creating this collection was be able to transfer the design geometry to an integrated algorithm in the 3D modeling program. This tool was essential to adapt the design to different forms of jewelry, whether they were rings, earrings, rings and pendants. The 3d model with these characteristics also allowed to generate multiple alternatives and study very important variables, such as the weight of the parts, which wanted to be the lightest possible within the high quality standards we wanted to achieve.
