| DESIGN NAME: Between PRIMARY FUNCTION: Identity INSPIRATION: This work was inspired by construction models built through 3D printing. The fact that construction models are created with detail and provide different sensations from different angles made them a suitable media for expressing Between. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I produced the alphabet B by getting a motive from Venn diagram of a plane shape, which expresses the meaning of the word Between. Also, I produced B 3-dimensionally through the 3D printer. These two 3D printed symbols are seen as the alphabet B of the same plane when they are seen at the front. However, its form changes according to the switch of an angle, and viewers can see the two 3D printed symbols were designed in an individually different structure. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: I tried to make it possible for viewers to think about the definition of between one more by getting them to see the location where they look at this three-dimensional artwork, and the space, things, or people located in the opposite direction of this sculpture through this sculpture. Also this work was created by the idea that showing Between through 3D work would produce a lot better effect than the explanation of Between through 2 Dimensional artwork. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The beginning of this work was in October 2010 in London, and it was done in 2011 in London. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The logo was created by using Adobe Illustrator. The 2D logo was modeled by using a 3D modeling program, the file was converted so that the 3D printer could recognize the file, and the final logo was print produced in 3D. Then we finished the work with after-treatment to induce more solidity and stability. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W:250 mm x D:55 mm x H:135 mm TAGS: Between, Gallery, London, Logo, Identity, Sculpture, 3D print RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I proceeded with the research while considering, and thinking all things which could possibly happen at the word of Between. In addition, I endeavored to look into the link that could happen in all Betweens, i.e. interconnectedness with something. CHALLENGE: This work design is of more complicated formation than general 3-D Printing, so there frequently happened the case where a part of work was broken during the middle of work progress, having a hart time proceeding with the work cautiously, together with the printing company for the purpose of the desired degree of completion.
