| DESIGN NAME: Toothbat - WOW PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dental Floss Holder INSPIRATION: Dental floss is a good invention, but incomplete. Many people try hand-flossing, however, the tedious technique involved in flossing hinders its popularity. This drives us to innovate Toothbat, helping the public can develop the daily flossing habit. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Patented curved four arms design head builds up a 3-directional floss structure which can reach every tooth with different array easily. The handle is equipped with “Twister technology”, a unidirectional rotation mechanism. Only 3 simple steps can create the ultimate tension of floss structure for removal of food debris and plaques even better than hand flossing, which no other products can achieve. The curved handle with streamline grooves enhances the force of grip and controllability. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1. Turn the handle in align position with head; Tie the floss to the bullen of handle; Lay floss into 4 arms head and tie the floss to the bullen again; Turn the handle to control the desired tension of floss. 2. Use the top floss to clean all molars and the side floss for other teeth. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2014 in Hong Kong and finished in May 2015 in Hong Kong. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: By using 3D design software and printing technology, we found out the best size and angle of Toothbat head after numerous trying. It successfully establishes the best three-dimensional space can reach and clean every tooth easily. The tension of floss is the key point for removal of plaque. This is why we develop the “Twister Technology”, bi-direction rotation mechanism, create the ultimate tension that no other similar product can achieve. The material of Toothbat head is “Tritan Copolyester” which obtains the certificates of FDA and CE, ensures the safety and durability. Take Hong Kong as the example, the government survey tells that over 90% of adults has different level of periodontal diseases. The similar situation appears in among Asia countries. Periodontal diseases increases the risk of many serious complications. Such as stroke, heart attack, baby premature delivery and several kinds of cancers. Meanwhile, the medical expenses in oral care is increasing rapidly. Toothbat – WOW can destruct and remove the plaque effectively and easily. It enhance the personal health and makes a great contribution to the society in the same time. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is to change the people's mindset and habit. Everyone knows it is very difficult and troublesome to flossing. Our task is create a device to convicing the public that flossing can be an incredible easy and pleasant experience. NAME: idi - Toothbat PROFILE: idi – Toothbat launched Toothbat – One, the first generation, in 2014 and successfully be nominated be the winner of iF Product Design Award in Germany. In 2015, Toothbat – WOW & Childers were launched to the market. Not only the size and curvature angles of head were greatly enhanced on the second generation, the patented” Twister Technology” was equipped as well. It makes the tying method become much easier and the same time ensures the ultimate tension of floss. It won the variety of design awards. They include “Good Design Award” in USA and “Hong Kong Awards of Industries – Consumer Product Design Award” in Hong Kong. |
