DESIGN NAME:
Olympic Sun
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Illustrated Book
INSPIRATION:
Inspired by real figures from the history of the Olympic Games. The illustrator tried to capture some of their iconic moments and inspirational techniques throughout their career in the Olympic Games, and show them as heroes as they are for the younger generations. They are all proof that strength comes from within and it conquers any obstacle, pain, and injustice.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A fully illustrated book about the Olympic Games in Tokyo, 2021. This book is featuring vibrant and dimensional illustrations, that focus on successive phases of movement of Olympic athletes showing excellence, persistence, and passion.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The layout of the book is designed to be friendly and approachable to children, where most of the illustrations are connected throughout the pages, while others are spread on double folded pages, which makes the dynamic illustrations and vivid color palette even more engaging and encouraging more interaction with the story.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in September 2019 and finished in July 2020. The publishing date was pushed to July 2021 because of COVID-19 and the delay it caused to the Olympic games.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Sketches were made using pencil, then scanned and illustrated using Adobe Illustrator.

The book is available in different sizes, but the standard version is Width 8.5" in x Height 8.5" in.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Since the illustrator was inspired by real iconic figures from the Olympic Games, qualitative research was conducted in the form of data collection about famous Olympians like Florence Griffith, Usain Bolt, and Farida Osman, to study the anatomy of their movements and try to commemorate some of their career highlights. Mood boards were then created to help tell the story guided by the script. The outcome was vivid illustrations powered by an energetic color palette and unique perspectives.
CHALLENGE:
The creative challenge was to capture these inspirational moments of some of the best Olympic athletes achieving their goals in a visually interesting way, by using fresh drawing angles and different perspectives in the style of illustration, and focusing on the energetic movement of athletes, while applying that to the overall art direction with a vibrant gradient color palette.

With a total of 8+ years of experience working in the field. He has worked on TV campaigns, print ads, packaging design, illustration, and corporate identity design. Also, worked for clients like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, McDonald's, Nestle, Gillette, and Unilever.
