Interview with Ryuta Ishikawa at Thursday 4th of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RI: Design the product name "MOMIJI" simply. Expressed like a shining star. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? RI: Anyway, being simple. I was aware of the sparkling gold in the black. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? RI: We want to bring up carefully as symbolic product of maker in future. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? RI: About 1 year FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? RI: Since I had a long relationship with the client, the concept I made here became a natural form. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? RI: No FS: What made you design this particular type of work? RI: At the client's request FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? RI: Yes, I'm here. Many were influenced by their own teacher, Takashi Sekiya. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? RI: Ordinary people FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? RI: What symbolized "Momiji" that tells the fall season of Japan. Other elements are excluded. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? RI: The original name. It is named after the Japanese tree "Momiji". FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? RI: I used an Adobe illustrator. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? RI: To bring out the client's thoughts. Visualize it as much as possible. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? RI: As I was particular about materials and techniques, I interacted with the printer in detail. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? RI: Foil stamping FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? RI: It is not affected by data or analysis. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? RI: There were no particular issues, but I was particular about the details. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? RI: In their own will FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? RI: Direction force to unify the whole FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? RI: No
