Interview with Marco Antonio Barba Sánchez at Friday 17th of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MB: The design and functionality were merged in the concept based on the well-known legend of the triangle of Bermuda. Bermuda has been created because 72% of the fishing in the world is done in third world countries. And 90% of them do not have efficient and updated equipment. which means that around 100 million people are at high risk of shipwreck. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MB: SWhat inspired me was to see the need to create something to solve this problem. and that thanks to it could save many lives, it motivates me even more. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MB: produce it and take it to all those who need it FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MB: One year of exhaustive research, development of concept, brand and product. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MB: Due to trips I made, I found the need and decided to work on resolving it in some way. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MB: It still doesn't produce but I would love to be able to do it. if it is not by me, I would be willing for any other company to produce it in order to help all those who need it FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MB: I found the need and decided to work on resolving it. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MB: No FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MB: Fishermen and adventure sportsmen FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MB: It is the only one specialized in seawater and it is very efficient to be transported all the time. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MB: The design and name were merged in the concept based on the well-known legend of the triangle of Bermuda. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MB: Design thinking, Sketching , 3d models, prototyping, 3d printing, etc. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MB: It is the only one specialized in seawater and it is very efficient to be transported all the time. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MB: I read a lot and consult with experts on the subject. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MB: The technology is applied in it's design, production and product development. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MB: processes to distill and filter seawater, in addition to productive processes and materials suitable for the development of Bermuda FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MB: The little information that exists to be able to make a technological advance and for the development of this product FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MB: To be able to reach more people and boost my project with recognitions. So far he has won the James Dyson Award nationally, The Clap design award and is nominated as a finalist for the a! design awards. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MB: I improved the intellectual creative process by applying design thinking and other methodologies that resulted in the development of this project. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MB: I want you to know that the only thing I'm looking for with Bermuda is to be able to help people and if there is someone interested with the means to produce it, I am 100% willing to propose proposals to achieve their production.
