DESIGN NAME: Bermuda
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Seawater Purifier
INSPIRATION: Bermuda comes up from the fact that due to the lack of technology and optimal equipment fishermen with few resources have a high probability of being shipwrecked and generally do not carry enough victuals to survive. Although they are surrounded by water, it is not suitable for human consumption, which is why Bermuda converts seawater into drinking water from certain processes. The design and functionality were merged in the concept based on the well-known legend of the triangle of Bermuda.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bermuda is a lowcost seawater purifier that use solar energy, pressure control and filters to make it optimal for human consumption. In order to help castaways and people with danger of dehydration due to difficult access to drinking water. This product occupies very little space in relation to those that are similar, its production cost is low, it can be used as many times as desired and it can also be a very useful lifesaver due to its structure and the air inside.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Bermuda works thanks to the evaporation proccess of the water that is achieved due to its exposure to the sun, low pressure generated inside the device and its inflatable body helps to regulate the temperature and optimize the process. In the upper part it has a filling cap with a Valve through which air is introduced. The upper part also has an inclination so that the condensed drops in it fall into the distilled water tank and when accumulating a certain amount of water the valve empties , first through a filter that helps to clean the water better to be able to drink it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in 2017 as a previous research and expert advice and was completed in 2018 in Merida, Yucatan. So far it has been national winner of the James Dyson Award in september 2018, Clap award winner in December 2018 and was nominated in the a! design award in February 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Bermuda is made from durable plastic materials that are resistant to the sun and seawater. Its inflatable body is developed from a patented pvc laminate to streamline the purification process. It also has a filter that contains activated carbon coconut, zeolite, among other elements to remove particles and minerals that can harm the body. At the moment we are working on using more environmentally friendly materials and / or recycled materials that are economically reachable for users.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Bermuda can contain around 7L of seawater so that throughout the process we can obtain from .5L to 3L of water, in order for those who face circumstances of lack of water can survive and be rescued with good health, without dehydration.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Bermuda has been created because 72% of the fishing in the world is done in third world countries. And 90% of them do not have efficient and updated equipment. which means that around 100 million people are at high risk of shipwreck. Bermuda has a practical and functional design but at the same time aesthetic. The amount of bermuda processes increases its efficiency. Its shape and materials helps to occupy very little space, its production is low cost and can be used as many times as desired, this in addition to operating as a lifesaver due to its structure and the air inside.
CHALLENGE: Bermuda's challenge was to solve a need. The fishermen of the world are afraid of being shipwrecked and unable to survive due to lack of water. Bermuda covers that need and goes beyond it with its practical use, its size and its price, now the real challenge will be to reach all those who need it.
