Interview with Cayrani Yap at Sunday 26th of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? CY: With these keywords in mind, "on-site services, convenience, anytime and anywhere*", what is the best visual approach, the most effective design to get across to members within short span of time?. Drawing inspiration from simple green battery shape & fully charged one, in order to stay protected and 4-wheels to emphasise on its convenience. These ads convey the message to the members loud and clear. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? CY: Functionality is important in designing awareness material for a business product. Design that conveys the right, effective messaging, which also aligns with the users' needs. Knowing it must look interesting yet feasible is the desired results for these ad series. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? CY: To stay inspired & motivated to create more effective design, experimental and pushing boundaries. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? CY: The series were created at 2 different point of times. Each series took approximately 4-5 days from conceptualisation to final design. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? CY: This first series was commisioned in-house. The second series created after the launch of the first series. In view of users' needs to better understand the benefits of products that they are getting for their cars, hence the visuals were created. As mentioned above, good and effective design work hand in hand. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? CY: Not really. The only inspiration i got was when i look onto the rooftops of houses from high floor building. It gave different perspectives on how things look like from the above, which you don't get from eye level view. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? CY: The existing members. To inform them of the benefits of becoming a member. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? CY: It is not the usual images with cars moving on the streets. The primary focus was more on the benefits that comes with. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? CY: Adobe Photoshop was used heavily in this projects, as seen, there were lots of digital manipulation used to achieve the compositions. Several images were formed & combined to create depth. A lot of research was done to create the final image. Then the final layout was done in Illustrator. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? CY: The composition. The initial challenges were to bring together whole different elements & limited image resources, to form one cohesive work. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? CY: I worked on this alone. The advantage of this project is to enhance the skills on digital manipulation. As mentioned, extensive research on real life perspectives help to create these pieces. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? CY: The advanced technology helps tremenduously in getting the desired end results. Resources were easily accessible, hence saving time and cost. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? CY: The image manipulation. The limitation on images, making it a challenge to create intended ideas/concept. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? CY: Understanding the user needs & inspiration to design functional yet fresh works for the brand.
