Interview with Bond Creative at Thursday 10th of May 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? TN: In the Vietnamese culture, Mid-Autumn Festival is considered the second-most important traditional holiday after Lunar New Year. On that day, the Moon is brightest and roundest, which means reunion and completeness. With that meaning, making and sharing mooncakes, which is also round shape, is one of the hallmark traditions of the festival. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? TN: In this special packaging, we can capture images from many areas: from mountain to delta, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, from rural to urban, from fairy tales to stories on modern media… Mid-Autumn Festival has become limitless inspiration for every Vietnamese generation from everywhere in each Autumn. Illustrations on the packaging show many different scenarios, like viral stories on social media or intricate packaging. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? TN: It takes 4 weeks for us to design this concept, include concept idea to final artwork step. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? TN: MVV Mooncakes were designed by Bond Vietnam to share a story of the MVV office-workers who have worked hard and devoted their efforts to their customer’s successes. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? TN: The design of MVV Moon-cake packaging was created as a special gift to reward profound and dedicated people from Media Ventures Vietnam group (MVV). FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? TN: With the requirements of the client, we use high materials in the production of the packaging, including 1200 gsm rigid board and textured fancy paper. The box is magnet flip, doubled layered praline to make it different from other mooncake packaging. We also pay attention to every detail in the workmanship to ensure that every box is a masterpiece that complements product perfectly. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? TN: MVV Mooncakes is the special project of our design team. We are a FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? TN: The special techonology in this particular design is used in print process. We use Metalic Silver Ink, UV Spot Vanish and embossing which can help the packaging more luxury. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? TN: Combine of the traditional Mid-autumn mooncake packaging with the modern communications. The packaging must have the unique design and be different from all the other designs in the market.
