Interview with Anastassiya Koktysheva at Monday 23rd of April 2018

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AK: The main inspiration was a play of shapes from the different sides of view. First you see the simple circle, from the another side it looks like a loop or something abstract.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AK: The main focus has been working with material. We were prototyping very long time to achieve the solid shape, we tried to make it as a one whole.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AK: This award winning is very prestigious and I will feel more confident myself for my future plans.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AK: I created an idea in a one day after that I had a three or four months for designing the process, we was working with several craftsman, we had many mistakes and different production types. I think it taken for a one year.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AK: It was an inspiration. I saw this beautiful shape of Mobius strip and understand that it can be a lamp

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AK: We produce it with our partner company in Almaty. I think I can to sell the production rights to one of the good lighting design company

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AK: It was a desire to decide the difficult task with production and receive more experience

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AK: I don't think so

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AK: I don't know

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AK: It is a combination of production from local materials and opportunity to see the shape in this performance

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AK: It is very simple. M-lamp means Mobius lamp.12.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AK: In the beginning was the sketch. Thereafter I made a visualisation in 3Ds Max. In production we worked with plywood and veneer and bended it by hand

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AK: It's a hand made work

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AK: Yes, I worked with masters in the manufacture of furniture

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AK: We developed the technology of production from scratch

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AK: neither

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AK: We have some difficulties with wood, fixing the form and setting the led strip

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AK: I received an invitation from your agent.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AK: I improved my skills in lighting production, working with wood and acrylic. It helped me to expand the manufacture
