DESIGN NAME: M-lamp
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ceiling lamp
INSPIRATION: I really love abstract design. Your own interpretation does not just add meaning to the product, it also makes you connect with it on a level. I tried to find the balance between simple forms on the face of it and emotional design. The perfect shape of mobius tape that always looks various from different angle of view. The thin strip of light emphasizes this uniqueness and complete the image.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: M-lamps in shape of Mobius bands look like celestial bodies shining above your head. Lamps made by hand and every new one is unique. Each layer of plywood are bent by hand, then polished and covered with walnut veneer and lacquer, giving extremely classy appearance to these luminous pieces. The lamps are embedded with a LED strip hidden under the acrylic cover to spread soothing white ambiance of light. The lamps come in three different forms that seem to narrate story to its owner.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Solid form without transform

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Nowadays there is no visual image of Kazakhstan in the world of design, along with the production eco-system and specific education. My mission is to form worthy a representation of Kazakh design through the expression in my works and develop the productions step by step.
The great example of the product like this grab attention; the digital world helps designers to reach influencers very fast. I just needed a 3D model of my idea and pushed it to the internet world and I can see the results how people to react on it. After that I started a production process.
CHALLENGE: The main obstacle was poor production possibilities. I was looking for master who works with wood and can feels the form. We tried to make it by solid wood but it too expensive. Then we started to work with plywood. We made more than ten prototypes. Also the complexity was with LED strips and how to replace it. I even thought to order it in China but it would not be our local product. Finally I found the good carpentry shop in Almaty which agreed the production.
