Interview with noel to at Wednesday 2nd of May 2018

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
NT: The key design parameters incorporate bold, stylish and timeless elements, with a natural palette of color combined with limited highlight elements. The natural essentials of sand, elegant folds, layering and flowing fabrics have been combined with details of bespoke stitching and combination of linearity and curvature, it offers a combination of comfort, warmth, and convenience to guests making every stay a unique experience.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
NT: The hotel is designed using the natural of sand concept, similar to the public areas and incorporate pop-up fabrics along with fabric wrapped and stitched furniture. They are designed to maximize the space and natural light, all design elements just happened inside the 10 s.m. space, with comfortable mixing.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
NT: We will show in our company website, also will send to client & companies.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
NT: Around 1 month

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
NT: The project located in the one of busiest commercial aresa. The design theme incorporates natural elements: "sand" in a creative and contemporary manner, a true mélange of natural and hospitality brought together to establish an environment of comfort and calm, a true retreat from the hot hustle bustle of the city on the doorstep.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
NT: This project we work with T.K. Tsui & Associates Ltd.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
NT: Noel@somethink, Kinson Tam@somethink, Pak@somethink

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
NT: The Burlington Hotel

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
NT: Usually people will use green element as the natural idea apply in the design. This time we use another different way of natural element "sand" as the main idea of the development.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
NT: Hotel name provided by client

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
NT: Rhino

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
NT: We like try the different way to present typical idea.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
NT: Noel@somethink, Kinson Tam@somethink, Pak@somethink, Clement@T.K.Tsui & Associates Ltd.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
NT: The characteristic of sand

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
NT: We do a lot reserarch of the charactor of sand element, movment, materials...etc.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
NT: present the "soft" character of sand by use solid materials.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
NT: we target though the international design competition to expand your view of design and the networking

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
NT: make us understand more detail and the knowledge of sand.
