Interview with Ting Wang at Tuesday 4th of July 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? TW: I hope my design is obviously different from other design works. It should be a building that combines traditional Chinese architectural culture with the local customs of the building FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? TW: The designers hope that this experimental project is the one that is rooted in the local culture. Given either its interior and exterior or its form, this architecture can represent the distinct regional features and humanistic spirits. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? TW: I hope more people can see my work and know me FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? TW: I spent more than two months perfecting the design FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? TW: I designed it for my client FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? TW: I'm sorry FS: What made you design this particular type of work? TW: The architecture of traditional Chinese architectural culture and local customs is unique FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? TW: The famous designer Ieoh Ming Pei is a spiritual advisor to my design career FS: Who is the target customer for his design? TW: This is a multi-function hall building, which is suitable for the needs of large conferences, press releases, shows, wedding receptions and other customers FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? TW: The architecture of traditional Chinese architectural culture and local customs is unique FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? TW: The work was named after a famous river in the area.Design inspiration comes from the river and the civilization on both sides of the river FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? TW: AutoCAD 3D Studio Max Sketchup FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? TW: The most distinctive part of this design is the interior and exterior forms FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? TW: The members of my design team include: Zhang Kewei, Wu Yan, Deng Mingdong, Lin Shu, Wang Min.They are professional designers in every field. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? TW: With the guarantee of the structural robustness via repeated calculation by designers and structural designers, the over 1,000 square meters multifunctional hall does not use a single structure pillar. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? TW: Yes, there is not a single column in about 1,000 square meters of indoor space, and the advantage is that the user is not limited by the space structure FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? TW: In face of the difficulty that the property of the construction area is actually a piece of farmland that cannot be largely solidified because it must be restored as farmland in the future time, the construction is doomed to be in temporal use. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? TW: I hope my work will need to be recognized by the design award FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? TW: The work of the designer is the work of combining art with technology, so that I can realize that good design inspiration needs stronger calm to implement.By learning the works of different kinds of good designers, you can find more inspiration in all aspects of life.
