Interview with Miroslav Stiburek at Friday 2nd of June 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MS: The glass is inspired by the Mayan culture and their ways. The base has 12 sides, to represent each month of the year. It's a dodecagon, which is then shaped into the final design that resembles a flower, hence the name Flourishing Shot Glass. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MS: I wanted to achieve a pure design that has a clean look, yet emits the right emotion. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MS: I would like to find a business partner with which we could bring the product to the market. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MS: A couple of hours, but around 3 months to say, ok, this is now completed. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MS: It was a pursuit of inspiration. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MS: I would like to lease the production rights to a company. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MS: It was supposed to be a gift to the parents of my girlfriend. That made me create this idea since they are from México and so I find the inspiration in the Mayan culture and their genius. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MS: People who love to enjoy their favourite alcoholic beverage with a touch of art. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MS: Its shape and philosophy. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MS: The design resembles nature/flower that gets properly watered. Also it made me think about our society, and about the genius of the Mayan civilisation. I came to a conclusion that if we treat ourselves well, we can achieve anything as a society, just like nature if it gets properly watered. The Flourishing Shot Glass expresses that, and ultimately the name describes the concrete shape of the glass as well as it's philosophical meaning. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MS: Shape, colours and purpose. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MS: No. Just with the glass cutting company. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MS: Computer software helped me quickly render some changes I had made. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MS: It was my first A'Design Award in 2016, so it was logical for me to submit to the contest in 2017 as well. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MS: I learnt to be more patient and give enough time to the design process.
