Interview with Irene Lim at Sunday 23rd of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? IL: The inspiration of the design is coming from a kid's perspective. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? IL: The main focus of this design is the balance of functionality and aesthetically. I wish to achieve a optimal design which functional and aesthetical are being well played and without compromising each other. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? IL: I am looking forward to any manufacturer who will interest on my award wining design and turn into a real physical furniture piece if possible. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? IL: Not sure the exact duration. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? IL: I was designed based on the inspiration that I had came across. It is not commissioned. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? IL: My design is not used by any company and I have a plan to sell or lease the production rights. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? IL: During the moment inspired by kids. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? IL: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? IL: Anyone and I think it could fit well in any place. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? IL: The shape and concept meaning behind. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? IL: The name of this design is based on my original inspiration idea. It is meaning eye in Chinese. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? IL: Autodesk 3ds Max and Adobe Photoshop software. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? IL: The shape and form. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? IL: No, I designed it through my own research. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? IL: Moulded technology should come in place to make the design in desirable shape & form. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? IL: I did research online to avoid the design similar to any other product in the current market. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? IL: The technical part is the most challenge part. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? IL: When I'm ready and well prepare of everything. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? IL: I have to improve the knowledge of material application and detailing of construction.
