DESIGN NAME: Yan Stool
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stool
INSPIRATION: 'Yan' is meaning eye in Chinese. Inspired by kid's perspective, Yan stool was created to express how colorful and wonderful the world is through a kid's eye. The shape of design is inspired and derived from the cross section of the eye. By using the vibrant color of fabric to contrast with clear transparent acrylic, and also with the unconventional shape, the stool presents a unique, impressive and eye-catching look.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Yan Stool with separate cushion provides flexibility in terms of changing the fabric or texture of cushion into any color or design pattern to suit or create different theme when it being applied in different interior space. With this unconventional shape, it strongly expresses its own identity and beauty yet reflects the inspiration behind of the design as well.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Yan Stool with round padded seat and is ergonomically designed to provide an excellent seating comfort. It allows easy transfer and carry. With its unique shape and colorful finish, it provides a sense of playfulness to the space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The concept was created in year 2012 when i was studying final year of interior design course in Malaysia. Final design has been enhanced and completed in 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Yan Stool is made of molded acrylic with upholstered cushion comes with high density foam internal.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was mainly focused on shape, material and colour selection, manufacturing technical concern. After several researches and exploring, here the ‘Yan’ stool was born.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to create something new and modern form that impressive enough to draw people's attention. Material selection was also another challenge during design development process which in order to achieve the desirable design.
