Interview with Falecki Furniture at Sunday 15th of May 2016 FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? DF: The primary goal for the future is to export the idea whether we make the furniture here in Australia or we license the concept abroad, the important thing is that good Australian design is being recognised around the world. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DF: The initial concept took just a few minutes to design and sketch on paper however getting it commercially ready for export has taken a number of months With various incarnations along the way. The concept is so simple that it almost felt too easy. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DF: I pursued an inspiration with this design. Looking at the limited space I had in my own dwelling and the fun my daughter has with jigsaw puzzles this design is solving a problem and satisfying a whim at the same time. This is what all good design should be based on. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DF: Our manufacturing is currently outsourced. Our manufacturer in Australia is capable of satisfying our domestic market as well as the export market. In the future as manufacturing viability fluctuates I hope to license these designs amongst others to abroad with the hope that no matter where my furniture is produced that its origins will be traced back to Australia and Australian design. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? DF: I designed this furniture range for the mass market. This furniture is relatively inexpensive to produce and made of robust materials with no consideration for planned obsolescences. Dwellings are getting smaller so flexible space saving design solutions like vertical furniture will inevitably be embraced. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DF: Falecki furniture is for everyone. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DF: Tooless assembly and disassembly with uncompromised use. And it's Fun. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DF: Most unique aspect of my design is that the individual components of the furniture can be housed in a flat vertically mounted panel when not in use hence freeiing up valuable floor space.
