Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Irena kilibarda (IK) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Irena kilibarda by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Kitch T here.

Interview with Irena kilibarda at Sunday 17th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
IK: When working constantly on kitchen design throughout interior projects, you experience a lot of different client needs and are familiar with what are standard possibilities of suppliers. I tried to think of something different; combine our Table T design into a kitchen, meaning link the table, work space and kitchen all in one.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
IK: We are living in a "fast" century where people do not have enough time for themselves and the interaction with their familly members or friends. Kitch' T gives the opportunity to be together and gather around one product/in one space. We can cook, check our emails and interact with everyone present - it is the interaction spot.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
IK: One month of designing, working on details, specifications as well as construction drawings. One more month of getting everything together - production.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
IK: I decided to pursue an inspiration. The kitchen design, if we pay attention to last few years is going towards "table/isle" kind of way of presenting the elements. This is not a part of a kitchen, but the whole kitchen :) It is all in one and easy to move when changing the living space.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
IK: Depending on opportunities.. Right now the idea is to produce it ourselves.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
IK: Table T - our last years' winning design

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
IK: Target customers are young professionals mainly. The kitchen is suitable for appartements/lofts or offices.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
IK: KITCH' T - Kitch is really the abreviation for kitchen that we made up (because the kitchen is compact) and T because it uses Table T, it is really the kichen out of Table T. All the elements are underneath the table.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
IK: Everything is done inside dsignedby.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
IK: We are using USB sockets, Corian DuPont as a sustainable material, Corian DuPont charger incorporated into the Corian worktop, the LED light inside every element... to Bosch new compact owen with microwave. dsignedby is always thinking in working with new technologies and materials.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
IK: The biggest challenge was incorporating all the necessary elements and appliances into a kitchen that is 92cm wide and using it from both sides.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
