Interview with Helen Brasinika at Friday 18th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
HB: The main inspiration for the design identity came from zen philosophy and the dyadic nature of cosmos. The desire was to create a contemporary space that customizes therapies based on advanced technology while offering classic treatments as well. The resulting design proposal was to create a dynamic space that emits the austerity of scientific labs to the familiar connotations and warmth of classic interiors.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
HB: The design scheme stemmed from the companies deliverable to create a contemporary space with reference to scientific labs, yet to refrain from their dominating cold austerity. We wanted to create a balancing scheme between scientific and classic warm spa and wellness ambience.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
HB: We would like to promote it online and on classic hardcopy editions and get from it the most of publicity and marketing.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
HB: 6 months including construction and delivery phase.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
HB: It was a commision for the first branch of a new brand in wellness and cosmetology.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
HB: Used by the customer

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
HB: Customer commission

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
HB: International influences and local context, trying always to translate context using a more international architectural and design language.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
HB: Women or men that wish to buy wellness and cosmetology programs facial and body rejuvenation and repair.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
HB: Regarding Greek competition its design is very groundbreaking, dynamic contemporary while adhering strictly to the marketing policy and services of the company in terms of familiarity with the greek target customer. It follows design rules and concepts that are used by international peers and the resulting outcome looks more international than local.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
HB: Vivify means rejuvenate.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
HB: Various design tools and concepts.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
HB: The application of a sweet color pallete that combines taste, desire with reason and science, and the combination of material and textures.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
HB: Yes, various companies during the construction and manufacting process, since all the items and furnishings were custom designed and manufactured for the purpose of this design identity.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
HB: Very important since, CAD/CAM softwares were used for the design and manufacturing while advanced technology was used for enhanced formulas and minerals to be applied on floors and walls special milling and drilling machines to give different nature to common materials and finishes like wood and metal.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
HB: As part of our design process, research findings in the international field is always incorporated in the concept design, while international research in materials and finishes is conducted in order to stay informed and following design trends.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
HB: For wider publicity coverage and to add the value status of a respected and recognized design award.
