Interview with May Khoury at Friday 6th of September 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MK: The old Ottoman coffee Grinder inspired me to create this console FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MK: As usual I wanted to showcase an old piece within a modern creation FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MK: I would like it to be shown in many Art Shows & Fairs outside Jordan FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MK: It took me around one week to design this concept FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MK: I designed this piece for my gallery of Arts & Crafts FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MK: I intend to produce my work myself FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MK: This is typical of my type of design, as I always try to incorporate an old handicraft piece into a modern creation FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MK: It was purely my idea & no one influenced me. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MK: Art Lovers, creative clients who appreciate heritage & cultural pieces FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MK: It is a unique piece as the old coffee grinder is difficult to find these days. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MK: The name Mabrada, which means coffee cooler, was reproduced to form one of the legs of the console & thats how I chose to use it. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MK: The carpenter put it together with regular tools. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MK: The whole piece is unique using stonelike paint & reproducing the shape of the coffee cooler to become one of the legs of the console.
