Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Johann Szebeni (JS) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Johann Szebeni by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Silverback Gorilla here.

Interview with Johann Szebeni at Wednesday 10th of April 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JS: The idea was conceptualized for my master thesis as a study for breaking the small format, functional room type of configuration, that exists in today's yachts and simply blow it out, so that finally we could have space to live instead of this hotel kind of feeling.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JS: I'm in love with defining new spaces for people to inhabit. So it made sense for me to play with space and function in a new and innovative way making a floating home where people would be comfortable and could enjoy a good time while travelling through the world in style and luxury.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JS: To find a partner and built it.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JS: Around 10 months.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
JS: The concept does not track the rational and perhaps optimal use of every square meter, but wants to approach to architectural parameters like the interplay of spaces, openings and visibility. With a simple design and a well-composed multifunctionality this yacht contrats with all its conventional competitors.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JS: The 2 courtyards. The result is a new experience of space on a motor yacht.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
