OneSmart International Education Headquarters

OneSmart International Education Headquarters is an innovative architectural and interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary spatial design principles. Located in a century-old building in Shanghai's Putuo District, this 12,000-square-meter headquarters transformation project demonstrates exceptional spatial problem-solving through the implementation of large-scale art installations and dynamic architectural elements. The design, conceived by Benny Ren and LongYang Liu, addresses the challenges of a confined entrance area and structural limitations by incorporating arc-shaped spatial devices that create visual continuity and expansion. The project's design philosophy draws inspiration from traditional Chinese concepts such as yearly higher, auspicious clouds and dragon, and high mountains and flowing water, translating these cultural motifs into modern architectural language. The interior features a sophisticated blue and white color scheme complemented by warm wood tones, creating an environment that balances professionalism with comfort. A notable spiral staircase connects the first and second floor reception areas, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere while adhering to sustainable design principles. The project, completed in 2020, received recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to space utilization and cultural integration. The headquarters successfully accommodates various functions including office spaces, meeting facilities, and educational activity areas, while maintaining a strong commitment to both aesthetic excellence and practical functionality.
