Subsidized Entry
Once in a while, a design patron, that is usually a design institution, a large enterprise, a big brand or a philanthropist provides us with additional funding and/or support for good design initiatives worldwide. When we get this amazing opportunity and additional support, we are able to provide you with Subsidized Digital Entry Nomination tickets that are either heavily discounted or where a significant portion of the nomination costs are covered by the patrons.
No Further Fees
This is especially great for you as a designer because as you may already know, the A’ Design Award has a strict no further fees policy which ensures award winning designers would not have any further financial and contractual obligations to make payments to obtain their winner services with regards their participation. Therefore if you use the Subsidized Digital Nomination Tickets you know you do not get under contractual obligations to make payments for obtaining the A’ Design Prize.
Timeline
When we could have subsidized entry is not something we are able control; while we reach out to companies, philantrophists and institutions all year long, most large enterprises have their own calendars and we cannot control or force them to follow a specific schedule. Furthermore while we try our best every year, there are many years we cannot find sponsors. Therefore this opportunity presents itself untimely and unexpectedly any given moment. The good news is that if this happens; if we have this possibility, regardless of when the opportunity arises, we will contact you and inform you.
Subsidy Percentage and Support Amount
We never know in advance how much of a support we would have; we do not wish to be a choosing bagger when it comes to accepting support and as such the subsidy amounts will vary significantly based on the patron institution or entity, however we will engage in positive price discrimination that benefits young designers, upcoming design professionals, artists and architects as well as small architectural offices, design studios, creative agencies and startups. You will be able to learn how much the subsidy percentage is by comparing our regular digital edition entry fees to subsidized digital nomination tickets, for the period in which you received a subsidized digital entry proposal.
Rarely 100% Subsidized
We list Subsidized Entry possibility under free to join methods as there could be years where the tickets are 100% subsidized, however to be very honest the 100% subsidization is not common; and indeed very rare and in most cases the subsidy amounts are going to be within the 20% to 40% range, especially for open-for-all initiatives. It is good and important to note that when the tickets are 100% subsidized relevant eligibility conditions are usually very strict, targeting specific demographics or industries or require high preliminary scores as noted by the patrons.
Limits and Eligibility
There may be limits to the number of people or number of times you may use or acquire the subsidized tickets depending on the availability of budget or as decided by the patron institution or entity. Sometimes the Subsidized Digital Nomination Tickets may also available for a very short time and a deadline may be present. In most cases, subsidized digital edition nomination tickets would be made available only once per eligible designer. In some cases there may be further eligibility conditions such as based on household income, country of origin, industry or design skill (preliminary score). We will only invite you if you are eligible, thus if you do not get an invitation you cannot make use of the Subsidized Digital Nomination Tickets. To have an opportunity to get invited you need to be a registered user that did not unsubscribe from our letters such that we could reach you if an opportunity arises. You would receive a proposal or call to action by email with a link that allows you to obtain “Subsidized Digital Edition Nomination Ticket”.
Common Eligibility Conditions
In most cases, the Subsidized Digital Nomination Tickets will be made available to young designers, professional designers, artists, architects, photographers and illustrators but also newly founded design offices, architectural studios and creative agencies in developing countries. However, these are common conditions and they may change based on the sponsoring institution; in any case, if you receive an invitation or proposal, you are eligible and if you do not receive an invitation you are not eligible.
