Todd Saunders Fogo Island Shed Hotel Dining Room
Fogo Island Shed Hotel Dining Room is Golden Design Award winner in 2018 - 2019 Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award Category.
Fogo Island Shed Hotel Dining Room

Designed around the notion of 'slow eating', the space is intended to foster a social approach to dining, with a long table set alongside an open plan kitchen. The new building combines contemporary forms with traditional techniques, evoking a strong sense of place through the simplicity and porosity of its interior and exterior volumes. Essentially a simple timber shed, the structure uses the studio's trademark tilted and twisted geometry to create visual drama, as part of the wild landscape.

Todd Saunders

Saunders Architecture was founded by Todd Saunders in 1998. The Canadian architect has lived and worked in the Norwegian town of Bergen since 1996. Saunders’ studio has completed residential and cultural projects across Norway, in addition to working in ten countries around the world. Saunders Architecture brings an experimental approach to materials and building systems that fuses with a traditional, craft-led approach, often exploring vernacular forms and methods. Their extensive experience working within landscapes demonstrates the studio’s understanding of the importance of place, from wild protected environments to a more traditional suburban location.

Fogo Island Inn

Fogo Island Inn sits on an island, off an island, at one of the four corners of the Earth. Every one of our 29 one-of-a-kind guest rooms and suites has dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto the wildest and most powerful ocean on the planet. A stimulating relief from the numbing uniformity of modern times, the award-winning Inn is built on the principles of sustainability and respect for nature and culture. The Inn is a community asset, and 100% of operating surpluses are reinvested into the community to help secure a sustainable and resilient future for Fogo Island, Newfoundland.
