This piece stands out due to its aerodynamic shapes and the lightness of its structure, as its main inspiration are the silhouettes of the first airplanes from the early 20th century. The glass at the top has a shape inspired on an airplane wing and projects a ray of color that can be seen on the floor or the walls of the space. The purpose of the designer is to go beyond a simple storage unit, it intends to generate a bold and pleasant sensation for the user.
Gerardo Ríos's artistry and craftsmanship is a symbiotic reflection of what he believes in and often finds inspiration on “the daring romance and adventures that we find in people, history and our natural environment”. Ríos’ artistic spirit is inherited from a lineage of artists dating back to his great-great grandfather, the world-renowned painter José MarÍa Velasco. Each piece of furniture, whether it is a chair, a divan, or a chaise lounge, should create a sense of harmony and provoke a sensual response with the person who experiences it. For Gerardo Ríos, It is the need to communicate and the possibility of astonishment that defines the word “Design”.
Born in México, Gerardo Ríos has the training of an industrial designer and the calling of an artist: Curious and inquisitive by nature, in his furniture he mixes a seemingly boundless array of stimuli that only truly materialize after an intense process of studies and refinement. As a multifaceted artist, he has a highly sophisticated vision in regards to what makes a piece of furniture special. His designs are made with pure, organic shapes, sometimes elemental but always evoking lavish experiences and associations.
