The design is a 3D map, created with the use of laser-cut wood for the streets and the infrastructure, and epoxy resin for the water reservoirs. The map can show any place on Earth, to remind you of a special time or place in your life. It is made with the use of modern technology, and is meant to combine the ancient art of carpentry with the new possibilities of laser accuracy.
Przemysław Koczkodaj is a professional data engineer by day, and a passionate woodworker by night. His talent is to make things appear from nothing. After years of successful backstage visionary work in programming, he now wanted to use his love of technology to make something beautiful that could be seen on the walls of his own house. So he combined his interest in maps with his love of technology, creating a design that is both aesthetic and high-quality.
The DifferentMaps was created in 2018 as a professional project of a married couple who wanted to make a special map for themselves, and decided to explore the idea and further develop the project. The maps are a mix of two worlds: art and technology. They are simply beautiful, and evoke thoughts and memories. At the same time, they are truly well-produced with the use of modern technology. The authors wanted to make a map design that would capture any place, even the smallest corner of our planet.
