For this reason she has always being intrigue about the roles and influences that different cultures play in our lives. Canedo’s passion is fueled by this uncertainty, she enjoys researching and analyzing different customs to use in her work. Her main inspirations comes from her country and non-western traditions. In this specific collection she was inspired by Mexican and African masks.
Canedo’s collection is an anthropological exploration of the self-transformation mask wearers go through in Mexican and African cultures. For both cultures mask wearers are believed to be able to communicate or become possessed with the being symbolized in the mask. Mexican and African cultures belief that that face is directly related to the soul, therefore they uses masks as a way to enhance or change one person's characteristics.
