About Gloryrose Metilla : Arch Gloryrose Dy Metilla has established herself as a pivotal figure in advancing contemporary heritage design within Mindanao, placing cultural sensitivity at the forefront. Her contributions not only showcase her creative vision but also leave a lasting impact on the area's architectural landscape and community. STATEMENT OF ART:She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of the Philippines in Mindanao in 2009, where she garnered the Best Thesis Award. Shortly after, she won the Red Point National Thesis Award, an exemplary undergraduate Architecture thesis award in the Philippines. In 2018, she finished the Design Summerschool from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University, Shanghai, China, and then her Masters in Urban and Cultural Heritage from the Melbourne School of Design, University of Melbourne, Australia, with an Australia Awards Scholarship. In addition, she is finishing her Doctor of Philosophy in Management at the University of Mindanao. She has been a United Architects of the Philippines North Davao Chapter President 2015 - 2016, Balangkasan Chair for Area D in 2016, Editor of the Area D Committee of UAP Journal under the Commission on Professional Development 2019 -2020, and a member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites or ICOMOS and an expert committee member of the International Committee on Vernacular Architecture. She worked as a technical officer for TAO Pilipinas Inc and then as a Design officer for SM Engineering and Design. She has also worked in heritage architecture fields in Melbourne under Quadratum Architecture and the Design Proposal for the Rehabilitation of Circum-Taihu Lake Heritage, China, a government competition. Currently, she is the founding partner of Swito Designs Architects. A studio is focused on Cultural Sensitivity in Design and Urban and Cultural Heritage. The firm is working on the Department of Tourism Region XI Cultural Complex, Bangsamoro Ministry of Interior and Local Government, Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism Infrastructure Projects, and other international projects. Aside from architecture, she founded organizations like the Mindanao Architecture Advocacy Network and designed toys. like the BalayBalay Architecture Puzzles, Marawi Journey Board Game, and toys for Disaster Resilient Communications, to name a few. She is the current Eastern Mindanao Representative of the National Commission for Architect and Allied Arts of the National Commission for Culture and Arts. “We should cherish our culture, embracing the beauty of our architectural heritage designs.
