Interview with Dionisio Othon Garcia at Tuesday 28th of February 2023 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? DOG: When I enrolled in college I did so to study civil engineering. Back then I thought that was what I wanted to be. As it turned out, after the first month of my studies something told me I should change to architecture and I did. That was over 30 years ago and I am so greatful I did it beacuse it turned out that architecture and design is my passion. I have been very lucky to have been able to work in this field. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? DOG: I started my design studio in 1995. And I have been lucky to work in all diferent kinds of projects for all diferent kinds of clients, along the way. FS: What is "design" for you? DOG: Design for me is giving a solution to real every day needs through ideas, exploring existing paths and making new ones in order to better the solution to those needs. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? DOG: My favorite design is the one I have nominated for this competition. I believe it is some of my best work and I believe even better designs are ahead. I am always striving to better myself and my work. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? DOG: My favorite platform/technology is my head. That is where I do most of my designs. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? DOG: I would not say I have a desing style. What I look for in my designs is for them to stand out, to create buildings that are diferent to any others, always of course contemplating that they are visualy apealing and that they satisfy the needs of my clients. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? DOG: I live in Hermosillo, Mexico. Until very recently there were not many oportunities to design significant buildings, but the last few years my city has been growing and so good oportunities are now arriving. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? DOG: I first ask what the needs and wants of my clients are. I then ask myself what are the best solutions for those needs and then I start visualizing. FS: What was your most important job experience? DOG: I have had many. They are when my clients are more then satisfied by my work FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? DOG: I work as a team. I have architects that work with me and we all design. FS: How can people contact you? DOG: Through my email: doarquitectos@prodigy.net.mx
