Interview with Lisa Liu at Friday 16th of December 2022 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? LL: Becoming a designer is always my dream. However, I suffered a difficult time with switching from Graphic Design, which is 2D and flat to Interior design, which requires more sense of space. But most of the time I enjoy challenging myself on this. Also, China is a quite different society now, young generation starts to show off. More opportunities are open to public and more allowances are given to creative industry. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? LL: Our Studio is like a big family. Each person has his own strong personal character, also professional skill. And also we learned from each other a lot. Arguing about projects because of different opinions is very often, however it never does matters, we still hangout ,drink, have fun together. Studio is like a place where inspiration never fades away. FS: What is "design" for you? LL: MAGIC FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? LL: Furniture decoration, art installation FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? LL: There's no most , however, personally, I admire YABU as my favorite agency. The color palette they use, the traffic flow in their plans ,always inspire me . FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? LL: A LOGO FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? LL: I think I can hardly define. Since in our studio, we like to discover different materials, maybe couple years ago I like paints, now I love acrylics. However, to me right now, I care more about sustainable materials. FS: When do you feel the most creative? LL: MIDNIGHT FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? LL: Details. The deco objects. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? LL: EXCITED FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? LL: LUCKY FS: What makes a design successful? LL: To enhance the actual experience of your client. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? LL: CONCEPTION FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? LL: Be responsible for what you are showing to public, it may flow into the trend. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? LL: There will be blurred boundary between different fields. Designers from cross fields need cooperate. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? LL: EVERY MOMENT. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? LL: A Mixed style. This approach may due to my ethnic background. Grownup in China and overseas study in USA for 7 years give me a mixed cultural sense. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? LL: Chengdu. My city is where you can not say no to delicious food, pretty people, and ,PANDA. FS: How do you work with companies? LL: We support each other all the time and encourage each other FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? LL: RESPONSIBILITIES AND LOVE for design. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? LL: brain storming, sketching, mapping information, collect inspirations, then set off FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? LL: My Hair dryer-dyson my perfume My stool which I purchased from flea market my socks the carpet FS: Can you describe a day in your life? LL: hard to describe
