Interview with SDG Strategico Design Group at Tuesday 13th of June 2023 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? SSDG: In truth, I believe I was always an art enthusiast without realizing it until I had to decide which direction to pursue in my professional career. I discovered the field of industrial design at my 18 and chose it as my future without hesitation. I always go back to that day when I chose to be a designer because it was more of a sign than something I actively sought. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? SSDG: SDG is a strategic design studio that aims to transform the ideas of our clients into designs and strategies that have a positive and comprehensive impact on the world. How do we achieve this? By turning purpose into visual reality, developing experiences instead of spaces, designing products that solve problems, and creating human-centered websites that ensure successful customer journeys. Why do we do this? Because we believe that every new idea is an opportunity to bring about change. In collaboration with our clients, we create improved businesses that demonstrate our capacity to create a better world. FS: What is "design" for you? SSDG: Design is a way to become a changemaker in various roles. As designers, we have the ability to influence and make a profound impact on enhancing our perception and experience of everyday life by doing what is good. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? SSDG: Mostly product and brand design, but the truth is that anything that leaves a mark on the world and serves a purpose for being in it. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? SSDG: A paperclip. To me, it is the epitome of a minimalistic tool—timeless, fulfilling its function, and remarkably simple. I believe that the simplest things are often the most challenging to accomplish. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? SSDG: A logo FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? SSDG: Any material that comes from nature, I believe nature provides us with unique textures and properties, and even enables us to reduce harm to the planet compared to synthetic alternatives. FS: When do you feel the most creative? SSDG: When I work in a team and venture out to be stress-free, I find inspiration in everything. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? SSDG: First, address the needs of the person who will use the space, product, or brand. Second, shift focus to the form—how I can employ the brand's language through tangibility. And third, the detail. For me, attention to detail is paramount as it makes a difference in the perception of any design. Meticulous use of materials, meticulous consideration of the connection between materials, and meticulous shaping all play crucial roles. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? SSDG: Honestly, any kind of emotion arises when there is a client involved, but I believe that passion generates excitement that always propels us forward. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? SSDG: Total satisfaction and joy FS: What makes a design successful? SSDG: I believe, a successful design is one that solves a problem or fulfills a need over a long period of time, is accessible, desirable, and environmentally friendly. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? SSDG: I always pay attention to the harmony and detail of the design. A good design consists of innovative elements. A bad design is a solution without purpose. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? SSDG: Our responsibility is to guide, inform, and persuade to do good. We have the power to do our best in an integral way, making the clients, suppliers and collaborators aware of every aspect that the entire design process will encompass. We are changemakers, and it is our duty to ensure that everyone is aware of it. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? SSDG: I believe that we are increasingly recognized as leaders in solving different problems. The world is shifting towards a more holistic, less analytical, and more creative vision. As Daniel H. Pink aptly states, 'right-brainers will rule the future'.
