Interview with Karolin Larsson at Tuesday 1st of November 2022 FS: What is "design" for you? KL: A toolbox for a change with aim of creating value for all involved. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? KL: I first consider the purpose and context of the intended use. That's the key for me to understand whether it works or doesn’t. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? KL: Everyone is responsible for following the rules of sustainable design, adapting to the UN climate goals, and using the right energy for the right usage at the right time. To satisfy human present needs without compromising the needs of future generations. Designers working with the industry also have a chance of “nudging” new ideas into the organisations we work for. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? KL: Design and design-thinking can be applied to anything and since the last couple of years has had an extra big impact on our daily life and well-being, I think we will see more designers working with services within the public sector like healthcare, schools & education, infrastructure, social problems. Design for these areas is very interesting. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? KL: Sources of inspiration are found everywhere: in people, science, nature, art, sport, daily life, riding my bike, visiting a factory, reading, talking to someone, overhearing a conversation, and seeing a situation. I’m always keeping my eyes and ears open to collect inspiration.
