Interview with TaWen Huang at Sunday 3rd of April 2022 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? TH: I have been studying the design industry since high school, and I have been focusing on the design industry all the way to social work. The goal is to become a professional interior designer and to have a design studio, which has now been achieved. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? TH: Started to work as freelancers in 2018, and design cases gradually began to accumulate. The design studio established in 2019 began to serve more clients FS: What is "design" for you? TH: My design is like the concept of a sectional drawing, which is explored from the perspective of the customer's life, so as to create a sense of exclusiveness in the use and style of the customer, which is closer to the real life. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? TH: I like the minimalist style the most, as well as the classic design styles that can be mixed and matched to create more different design ideas. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? TH: I like the minimalist mix-and-match style the most, because of the Mis Van derRohe influence, the overall design is very simple and comfortable, and it won't make people feel bored in the same space for a long time. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? TH: small family home design FS: When do you feel the most creative? TH: It is to discuss a direction when understanding the living habits and favorite styles with customers. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? TH: I am most concerned about the details of the design project. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? TH: Very happy and immersed in my work environment. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? TH: Very happy and immersed in my work environment. FS: What makes a design successful? TH: Get the customer's approval. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? TH: Whether it belongs to the needs and desires of customers. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? TH: Exist to create a better life. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? TH: Design is changing in a more technological direction. In the future, it may be necessary to integrate technology-based products into residential life. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? TH: The inspiration for the work usually comes from the communication with the client. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? TH: The style usually comes from the knowledge of students and the experience accumulated in social work, connecting culture and life together, and being able to express the needs of clients. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? TH: I live in Taiwan, and Taiwan is a place that has been colonized by many countries. It has more cultural assets to use and learn, so I can create more styles and innovations in design. FS: How do you work with companies? TH: I am a one-man design studio. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? TH: I am a one-man design studio.
