Interview with Qidi Design Group at Wednesday 21st of April 2021 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? QDG: I graduated from Hefei University of Technology School of Architecture and Art. Before becoming a designer, I ‘m fascinating in art and drawing in light and shadow,to interpreting the cognitive environment . At the current, designer's work has been full of challenges and expectation ,we are capable to deal with challenges. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? QDG: We are a team of ten young people, who like design, love life and have a distinct personality. FS: What is "design" for you? QDG: To find an interpretation, to achieve a balance and harmony. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? QDG: Environmental habitat and cultural tourism FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? QDG: I prefer the project considering the local culture heritage in architectural landscape and interior design, such as Aman resort. My favorite Landscape master is Yufan Zhu. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? QDG: landscape design of Exhibition center in commercial Resident FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? QDG: Natural materials, stone and woods. FS: When do you feel the most creative? QDG: First concept after site visit. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? QDG: Deal with problems during the design process FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? QDG: Excitement ,passion, FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? QDG: Looking forward to the project completed. FS: What makes a design successful? QDG: Communication and finalize FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? QDG: The project conveys ideas and emotions, whether the scale of space is comfortable, and whether the transition is natural FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? QDG: Reflect and guide people's thinking and habits FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? QDG: The field of design will evolve the philosophy in design,and people’s mind.To achieve harmony between man and nature FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? QDG: Local culture . I have focus latest architectural landscape. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? QDG: Modern and natural style, environment and local Chinese history based on the traditional garden characteristics FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? QDG: I was born in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, a city with a long history and culture, with many intangible cultural heritages and monuments, and a deeper understanding and pride in traditional Chinese culture.Now I live in Shanghai. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? QDG: First of all, the interpretation of the basic information of the project and site survey, combined with the task book to collect information and brainstorm, initially determine the project positioning, design ideas and conceptual direction, and Party A communication and carry out specific design. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? QDG: On the positive aspect, I feel a strong sense of accomplishment and responsibility.On the negative aspect, I feel that is quite struggle coordinate your work and life as well as your family . FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? QDG: In fact, in the course of our team work, often will spend a lot of time in the early concept stage, try to improve the daytime work efficiency. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? QDG: Two months,sometimes even longer may takes over one year. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? QDG: Why I want to express and finalize message in the design process . FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? QDG: Team work.
