Interview with Golnoush Zamani and Hajar Shahsavari at Sunday 15th of May 2022 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? GZAHS: Hajar: she was graduate from painting at art school and then chose to study industrial design at the art university of Isfahan. because she wants to Combine emotions in painting into products. she tries to improve people's lives through design and bring people closer to each other. Golnosh: She has been graduated from the art school in graphic design and was massively interested in art history. She had a unique overview of graphics but wanted to experience a new field that's why she has chosen industrial design at the art university of Isfahan. FS: What is "design" for you? GZAHS: Golnoush: design is a way of living and thinking. Design is a great mixture of art and industry. Creativity and functions to innovate new solutions. Hajar: Design is not only their passion but also believe that they can convey their feelings to people through design. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? GZAHS: Golnoush: She is deeply passionate about futuristic medical design. Products and services. She is working in a branch of design that can save humanity and help people to live better. Hajar: she wants to be able to design things that can improve people's lives and bring people closer to each other. actually, design is a way that we can create better communication between people. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? GZAHS: Golnoush: Her favorite design is the wearable diabetes patches that stick to the body and can monitor and inject the dose of insulin automatically. Hajar: her favorite design, it's not very clear, there have been many designs that interest her but these days I really fond of to sustainable design to help to our environment. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? GZAHS: Golnoush: her first design goes back to 3 years ago when she was passing her internship in a toy company. She was working on a toy for 3_5 years children for color recognition. Hajae: her first design goes back to 3 years ago when she designs Venus with her best friend golnoush. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? GZAHS: Golnoush: her favorite material is stone. Her favorite platform is Ethereum cryptocurrency. her favorite technology is biotechnology. Hajar: her favorite materials are wood and biomaterial. her favorite platform is Samsung health. her favorite technology is biotechnology. FS: When do you feel the most creative? GZAHS: Golnoush: As she is working as a team for finding a solution she feels the most creative. Hajar: when she is working as a team to find a solution. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? GZAHS: Golnoush: benchmarking and ideation are the longest steps in her design process Hajar: Research problems in society and ideation FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? GZAHS: Golnoush: She feels she is useful while designing. Hajar: she feels the power FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? GZAHS: Golnoush : Feel of success Hajar: feel power and success FS: What makes a design successful? GZAHS: They think of Solving a real problem. Help humanity. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? GZAHS: Golnoush: The usability and the necessity of the design Hajar: how does it help people? and necessity of the design FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? GZAHS: Golnoush: considering the reality of the design brief and finding the most effective way to solve it Hajar: Find the most effective way to prevent environmental damage FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? GZAHS: Golnoush: She thinks design will empower by science and technologies much more than before. Hajar: She thinks design will Combines with technology and reduces the use of physical products FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? GZAHS: They have Participated in Dubai design week 2020. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? GZAHS: Golnoush : She mostly finds her creative idea of her normal conversations with her friends. Hajar: she mostly finds in her dreaming and child's novel FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? GZAHS: Golnoush: her approach is much focused on minimalism in appearance and usability in functions Hajar: simple and helpful FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? GZAHS: they live in Isfahan, Iran. A city is full of historic places. Golnoush believes Living in Iran can inspire minds unbelievably. Cause you can find stories even in the details and Hajar believes that Iran has a lot of symbols that it inspires many people in our society and international communities. so she tries to find new things and connected them To modern societies. FS: How do you work with companies? GZAHS: Hajar: I will work with a company that doesn't stop my creativity and works with an active group. golnoush: Right now she is working with a company that works on home appliances. She is working on the laundry products. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? GZAHS: Golnoush: The best way is the close links. Asking the other employees to introduce the new designers. Hajar: She does not have an exact idea, but it is better to see their creativity FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? GZAHS: Golnoush: First should complete the design brief and start search about the user and other benchmarks. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? GZAHS: Golnoush: Smart TV. Persian carpet.Tall door cabinet. Stickers. Bed Hajar: the bed. Bathroom, library especially children's novels, flower pot FS: Can you describe a day in your life? GZAHS: Golnoush: She is spending most of her time at work. Working on new projects. Hajar: She tries to exercise every day and working on a new project besides working on her thesis. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? GZAHS: Golnoush: To find their deep desire to design. Not just something they are good at. But something they think is right to work on . Hajar: Think different and positive and select the path and field that you love it. Read books and watch good movies FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? GZAHS: Golnoush: Working long hours on your pc is the biggest problem of a designer. But the positive point is the different mindset you have among other people. Hajar: Do not work on their design constantly. Sometimes it is better to leave your design to find a solution from your environments FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? GZAHS: Golnoush: Usability Hajar:Usability and Useful FS: What skills are most important for a designer? GZAHS: They think Being updated in technology and being an expert in some softwares. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? GZAHS: They use group brainstorming for ideation And turn it into 3D modeling then solid works and keyshots for presentation. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? GZAHS: They think asking and sharing is essential in these situations. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? GZAHS: They take a couple of months (2_5 months) FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? GZAHS: Golnoush: Design me a logo FS: What was your most important job experience? GZAHS: Goloush: Working in a massive holding named Entekhab Group FS: Who are some of your clients? GZAHS: They do not freelance work FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? GZAHS: Golnoush: The ones with a right and clear purpose. Cause they are more creative and useful. Hajar: Designs that lead to a specific goal and are effective FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? GZAHS: Golnoush: To design more futuristic medical devices for our future Hajar: to design more products that improve people's lives and help to the environment FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? GZAHS: they work as team. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
