Interview with Shilpa Sharma at Sunday 15th of November 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? SS: I have masters in information technology and co-founded an entertainment company, along with my spouse. I am also an accredited Nutrition Consultant & Yoga Practitioner but I believe design comes to me naturally and that belief started my career as a designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? SS: My brands are 'SQUACLE', an activewear / swimwear range, and 'Style Shrankhla', an ethnic women-wear range, both under the parent company 'Atiksh Entertainment Pvt Ltd' FS: What is "design" for you? SS: To believe that you can create and then thinking how to create is design for me. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? SS: I like designing ethnic clothes fused with contemporary styles. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? SS: The dress that just won the A Design Award, the metallic dual dress with wrap on is my favorite design. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? SS: It was interior designing for my first office. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? SS: Fashion Wear FS: When do you feel the most creative? SS: Early Morning FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? SS: Usability by end user FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? SS: Temptation to finish it FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? SS: Hearing the feedback of end users FS: What makes a design successful? SS: Honest efforts FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? SS: Usability FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? SS: Be concerned about the future FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? SS: Digital space will be more congested but physical space will always have the upper hand; You can't beat what you can see and feel FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? SS: My last exhibition was with A-Design, in October 2020 FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? SS: Nature and its forces FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? SS: My style is going with the flow of the creation process FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? SS: I live in India; Yes, our culture heritage is close to infinity and that has definitely helped me in being what I am; There are no cons to live in a beautiful country like India. FS: How do you work with companies? SS: We work with them for multiple business solutions in entertainment, media consulting and fashion requirements. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? SS: By increased personal interactions
