Interview with Xie Min Xuan at Tuesday 5th of May 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? XMX: Curious about all kinds of new things, which makes me a designer FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? XMX: My company is located in Taipei, Taiwan, and I also have a branch in Vietnam FS: What is "design" for you? XMX: Use unconventional logical thinking to solve problems FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? XMX: Soulful design FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? XMX: My favorite is the design that blends with nature FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? XMX: A 60 square meter home FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? XMX: Natural marble FS: When do you feel the most creative? XMX: At midnight when one is not disturbed FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? XMX: I am more concerned about the interaction between people and space FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? XMX: It ’s complicated, sometimes I am happy, but sometimes I feel anxious FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? XMX: When designing, I will feel the dialogue with the space FS: What makes a design successful? XMX: I think the definition of success should be to give a new life to the space, and the people in the space are happy FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? XMX: First I will notice the atmosphere of the space FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? XMX: Designers should use their own ability to coordinate everything, whether it ’s the environment or the people FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? XMX: What can change the world and make the world a better place has always been design, has n’t it? FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? XMX: Usually my work design inspiration comes from my life experience FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? XMX: I found a place in the space that can echo the environment, this is probably my design style FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? XMX: Designers in Taiwan are actually not an easy industry. Taiwan is a small country, but there are a lot of design talents going international. I think the reason for this part is probably that the market is too small, and I am also very proud. Taiwan has many Excellent design talent FS: How do you work with companies? XMX: In the company we will discuss the development possibilities of the design case together FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? XMX: I think the attitude of work is much more important than talent. Only by conscientiously and paying attention to each design case can we make a good design. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? XMX: When I am quietly designing, the surrounding environment must be very quiet, which helps me think. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? XMX: You have to discover unique things that will make you different FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? XMX: On the positive side, always come up with fresh solutions, but you have to sleep later than the average person FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? XMX: Use unconventional logical thinking to solve problems FS: What skills are most important for a designer? XMX: Anything that can express your thoughts and let others know is a good way FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? XMX: Usually I like to use 3D software FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? XMX: How do i touch others FS: Who are some of your clients? XMX: Construction company, restaurant, school, private FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? XMX: Design works by the sea or by the lake, maybe I like the vastness of the sea, it always makes me feel relaxed FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? XMX: In the future plan, I hope to actively develop the Vietnamese market FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? XMX: Usually I will judge how much manpower is needed according to the type or size of the case FS: How can people contact you?
