Interview with Anna Muratova at Sunday 20th of October 2019 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AM: As a child I always enjoyed creating something new and I made websites as a hobby. However, I bacame designer reletevely recently. While studying in master degree in applied mathematics and computer science in HSE one of the subjects was UI UX, which I really enjoyed. So after that I decided to learn more about design and in parallel with my studies I completed additional education in HSE in graphic design. FS: What is "design" for you? AM: Design is the creation of something new that suits people's needs. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? AM: Most of all I like creating promo sites and landing pages. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? AM: It was the UI design of online course «How to organize a festival» at the company Vector, Strelka. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AM: I enjoy all of Adobe programs. FS: When do you feel the most creative? AM: When I have interesting and unusual task. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? AM: First of all, convenience and simplicity in use, and then the design in general. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? AM: I feel inspired. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? AM: Mostly, happy or proud. FS: What makes a design successful? AM: Successful design satisfies the customer and the target audience likes it too. If such a design also has an unusual idea, then it is even better. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? AM: I have inspiration from great works on behance, dribbble and from design competitions winners. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? AM: I enjoy minimalism and interesting creative ideas. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? AM: I live in Russia. I have inspiration from the works from different countries across the world. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? AM: My design process starts from structuring all the given information, then sketching different variations and selecting the best one. And after that I make it visually attractive. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? AM: Good communication with clients and understanding target audience. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? AM: During design I use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and sometimes After Effects. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? AM: I try to plan my work and divide it into several parts. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? AM: Depending on the project it can take from several hours to several weeks. FS: What was your most important job experience? AM: Making promo site for Sony, EXTRA BASS on svyaznoy.ru website. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? AM: I enjoy making promo sites and landing pages, because it's like telling a short story, but in a visual way. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? AM: I want to make interactive websites with animation. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? AM: Usually I develop designs by myself. FS: How can people contact you?
